Athletic Bilbao forward Inaki Williams opened his goal scoring account for Ghana against Madagascar in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier on Friday evening.
Williams, who switched his international allegiance from Spain to represent the West African nation ahead of the 2022 World Cup, broke his goal drought for the four-time Africa Cup of Nations champions with a 96th minute header against Madagascar.
The 29-year-old scored a late winner when he brilliantly connected a cross delivered into the box by Gideon Mensah to hand Ghana a good start of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying round in the opening fixture against Madagascar.
Williams brought smiles on the faces of the 35,000 fans, who had gathered at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium to witness the match which nearly ended in a stalemate.
The Black Stars will travel to face Comoros in the second game of the Group H of the 2026 FIFA World Cup on Tuesday.
Williams has capped twelve times for the senior national team of Ghana with a goal to his credit.
