Ghana's all-time leading scorer in the CAF-organized Africa Cup of Nations tournament, Andre Ayew, has been selected to represent the national team in their upcoming match against the Central African Republic.

Despite currently being without a club, Ayew has been given an opportunity to potentially secure a new team through this unexpected call-up to the Black Stars.

The decision to include Ayew in the squad was made by Chris Hughton, the head coach of the Black Stars. Hughton has chosen to bring in the player who holds the record for the most goals scored by a Ghanaian at the AFCON, ahead of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

The match is scheduled to take place in Kumasi next Thursday, hosted at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.

It's worth noting that Ayew has not participated in any club football matches during this campaign due to his lack of a club affiliation.

Nevertheless, the Ghanaian coach believes that Ayew's experience and skills warrant his inclusion in the national team.

Ayew may even play a crucial role in the upcoming game, as Ghana only requires a draw to secure qualification for the next Africa Cup of Nations tournament, set to be held in Ivory Coast next year.
