AJ Auxerre coach Christophe Pélissier, has urged new signing Elisha Owusu to bring his qualities to the team as the club battles for survival in the French Ligue 1.
The Ghana international sealed a two-and-half year move to the French club from Belgian giants KAA Gent for an undisclosed fee earlier this week.
Pélissier in a press conference explained the importance of the acquisition of the 25-year-old defensive midfielder to strengthen the squad list for their remaining matches in the 2022/23 season's campaign.
AJ Auxerre have been struggling in this campaign after picking only three wins, drawn four times and suffered twelve defeats, leaving them 19th place on the French Ligue 1 table.
“Elisha Owusu is a player I was already following at Lorient. He has experience at a very high level” Pélissier said.
“He must bring us intensity and his ability to break lines with the ball”
Owusu joins fellow Black Stars player Gideon Mensah at Auxerre; both players were part of Ghana’s 2022 FIFA World Cup team that exited the tournament at the group stage.
He is expected to make his debut for AJ Auxurre in the French Cup against Niort on Sunday.
