Former Ghana international Alfred Duncan's dream of clinching first European silverware was shattered by West Ham United in the 2023 UEFA Europa Conference League final.

A late strike from Jarrod Bowen aided the English side to inflict a painful 2-1 defeat on ACF Fiorentina in the final at the Fortuna Arena in Prague.

West Ham ended their 43-year wait for a major trophy as Jarrod Bowen scored a last-minute goal to beat Fiorentina and win the Europa Conference League in Prague.

The final seemed to be heading for extra time after Said Benrahma's second-half penalty was cancelled out just seven minutes later by a well-taken effort from Giacomo Bonaventura.

It was a testy and sometimes bad tempered game - and at one point it got downright ugly as Fiorentina captain Cristiano Biraghi was struck by a plastic bottle thrown from the West Ham section.

The match was settled in the most dramatic manner.

Bowen timed his run to perfection as Lucas Paqueta slid a superb pass through the Fiorentina defence.

Duncan, who made only three appearances in the Europa Conference League campaign, was an unused player in the defeat to West Ham United.

His current contract with ACF Fiorentina will be expiring in the summer of 2024. He made 25 Serie A game outings in the just ended 2022/23 season's campaign.

Duncan prematurely retired from the senior national team of Ghana in 2022 after capping only 10 times for the West African nation.
