The ex-Ghana international feels the four-time African champions are just an inch away from securing qualification to the next global showpiece following their emphatic away victory against the Barea on Monday in the sixth round of the qualifying games

Black Stars are almost at the 2026 FIFA World Cup tournament to be co-hosted by United States of America (USA), Canada and Mexico, according to former Ghana international captain Stephen Appiah.

After recording an emphatic 3-0 victory against Madagascar in Morocco, the 44-year-old, who now serves as a management committee member of the senior national team, is sanguine the west African superpowers are nearly at the global showpiece given their win in Monday's qualifying encounter.

''With the win yesterday, yes, we are almost there. When you look at the points, the matches left, and the performance our boys have shown, yes, we are almost there,'' the ex-Juventus midfielder told 3Sports.

Following Ghana's impressive unbeaten run in the qualifiers so far, the Black Stars are now occupying the top spot in the Group l standings with 15 points, with a fifth World Cup appearance now highly on the cards given their strong campaign in the qualifiers.

The rejuvenated African powerhouse will be seen in action for the next round of qualifying games in September this year.
