The promising forward has now opened up on his decision to snub the advances of the Spanish heavyweights during the last summer transfer window

Spain-born Ghanaian forward Nico Williams has said that the relationship that exists between his La Liga outfit  Athletic Bilbao and that of his family are ''incredible'', with his chief suitors Barcelona told such atmosphere can never be felt at their side had he made the transfer switch during the summer of 2024.

The 22-year-old, who was a chief transfer target of Barcelona, hinted on his possible long-term stay with the Estadio de San Mamés campaigners having touted them so far for relying on their youth ranks in chalking up success in the Spanish top-flight.

Williams said ditching the Camp Nou outfit was the right decision and he is elated about that, telling France Football: ''My family is here. The relationship we have at the club is incredible. I will probably never experience this atmosphere anywhere else. At that point, I made the decision that I thought was right. And I'm happy about it.''

He has so far netted 6 goals and assisted 7 in 34 games across all competitions for Athletic Bilbao in this ongoing 2024-25 football season.

The Pamplona-born striker, who is a sibling to Ghana Black Stars forward lnaki Williams, opted to represent the Spanish senior national team at the international level.
