Ghana coach Otto Addo has lauded Abdul Baba Rahman for his performance in the Black Stars defeat to Portugal in the opening games of the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

The on-loan Chelsea left-back has been blamed by a section of Ghanaians for a defensive error which resulted in the second goal of the Portuguese scored by Joao Felix.

The 47-year-old trainer in an interview after the game insisted that the Reading FC defender played well against the 2016 European champions despite making a mistake in the second half.

“Baba Rahman defended so well. Had some good passes upfront. The problem was his position and yes I admit he was unlucky and made a mistake. But he played so well” Addo told reporters after the game.

“What I don’t like about the press is that u depend so much on the negatives but we also have to look at the positives. He defended so well and created some good chances too.”

Ghana will return to action for their second Group H game against South Korea at the Education City Stadium on Monday, 28th November, 2022.
