Ghana international midfielder Stella Nyamekye has completed a loan switch to Fort Lauderdale United FC from NWSL side NJ/NY Gotham FC ahead of the 2025/26 Gainbridge Super League season.
The deal, subject to league and federation approval, will see the 19-year-old strengthen Fort Lauderdale’s midfield as the club prepares for a title push.
“We are very excited to have Stella with us on loan from Gotham,” said Ali Rogers, Associate Head Coach of Fort Lauderdale United. “She adds a creative and dynamic piece to our attack, and her experience competing on both the professional and international stage will elevate our group.”
Nyamekye has enjoyed a remarkable rise in recent years. After impressing with Dreamz Ladies in the Ghana Women’s Premier League—where she scored 31 goals in 41 appearances—she earned a move to Gotham in December 2024. She made her NWSL debut in April 2025 and has already featured in two matches.
On the international stage, Nyamekye debuted for the Black Queens at 17 and was a standout performer at the 2024 Women’s African Cup of Nations, where she scored a decisive semifinal goal against Morocco and provided an assist as Ghana secured bronze. She also captained Ghana’s U-20 side at the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup, contributing two goals and an assist.
Fort Lauderdale General Manager Aly Hassan described the teenager as a “game-changing talent,” praising her creativity and technical quality as attributes that will add a new dimension to the team.
Nyamekye is expected to play a pivotal role as Fort Lauderdale United aim for silverware in the upcoming campaign.
