Ghanaian international Francis Abu put on a stellar performance to help Cercle Brugge secure a 2-0 victory over Heart of Midlothian FC in the UEFA Conference League on Thursday night.
The Black Stars midfielder played the full 90 minutes, playing a key role in the Belgian side’s dominant display at home.
France international Malamine Efekele opened the scoring in the 40th minute with an assist from Nils De Wilde, giving Cercle Brugge a 1-0 lead going into halftime.
In stoppage time, Gary Magnee sealed the victory with a second goal, assisted by Francis Abu, whose creativity and control in midfield were pivotal throughout the game.
Cercle Brugge have been in fine form in the Conference League, accumulating seven points from their first four matches, and now sit in a strong position in their group.
Abu’s compatriot, Lawrence Agyekum, also featured in the game, coming on as a substitute in the 72nd minute to replace Felipe Augusto.
The 23-year-old Francis Abu has been a consistent performer for Cercle Brugge this season, making 25 appearances across all competitions, with one goal and two assists to his name.
