Black Stars midfielder, Francis Abu made a meritorious impact in Cercle Brugge’s dramatic 2-0 win over Heart of Midlothian FC in the Europa Conference League on Thursday night.
The 23-year-old was deployed as an attacking midfielder against Heart of Midlothian and provided an assist in his crucial 90-minutes on the field, securing his third goal contribution of the season and helping the team to move to the 11th spot with 7 points in the competition.
With a personal stats of 7.8 on the night, Abu's precision and timing turned the game in Cercle Brugge's favour, as he continues to build on his growing importance, making his presence felt intensively.
The match continued with Cercle Brugge initially taking the lead through a goal from Malamine Efekele.
Although Heart of Midlothian took absolute control of the game, Gary Magnee's 90th minute composed delivery with an assist by Francis Abu ultimately confirmed Cercle Brugge's win, and they managed to hold on despite some nervous moments towards the end.
Abu’s Ghanaian compatriot Lawrence Agyekum climbed off the bench to replace Felipe Augusto in the 72nd minute.
Abu has featured in 25 games for Cercle Brugge this season, netting one goal and managing two assists.
