Ghana midfielder Majeed Ashimeru played a pivotal role in RSC Anderlecht's 2-1 victory over Real Sociedad in an hardly contested Europa League match at Reale Arena on Thursday night.
The dynamic midfield kingpin made a strong case for his introduction in the 88th minute with an impressive performance.
Sociedad started the match on the front foot, quickly gaining control of the game. Their early pressure paid off in the 5th minute when Nigerian forward Umar Sadiq sent a precise cross into the box, Pablo Marin latched on to it and put the ball into the bottom right corner, putting the home side 1-0 up.
However, Anderlecht responded swiftly, equalizing just twenty-three minutes later through a superb low accurate shot into the bottom left corner by Luis Vazquez.
Despite the breakthrough, Theo Leoni and his midfield partner Mats Rits orchestrated the play from the center of the park, helping Anderlecht regain control. Their efforts were rewarded in the 39th minute when the ball rebounded and arrived at the feet of Leoni just outside the box, which he did not think twice as he fired a brilliant shot into the top right corner. His attempt was beyond the reach of goalkeeper Alex Remiro, making it 2-1.
The match concluded in superb fashion for Anderlecht as this win sees the Belgians continue their strong form in Europe, with Ashimeru's standout performance proving his importance to the team as they push for further success this season.
