The former Asante Kotoko captain has sealed a move to the Iraqi top-tier league outfit on a free transfer, Kickgh.com can exclusively confirm

Ghanaian defender Abdul Ganiyu Ismail has officially joined Iraqi Premier League side Al Talaba SC in the ongoing transfer window.

The 26-year-old has signed a one-year contract with an option of renewal with the Al Shaab Stadium outfit after parting ways with Asante Kotoko last month.

Al Talaba SC finished third position after the 2021/22 Iraqi Premier League.

Ganiyu Ismail reached an agreement with the management of Asante Kotoko to mutually terminate his contract for an unknown reason.

He commenced pre-season with the 2021/22 Ghana Premier League champions but he was surprisingly excluded from the traveling squad list for the second phase of the club's preseason exercise in Sudan.

Before the termination, the club announced its decision of stripping off the captaincy from Abdul Ganiyu Ismail.

Midfielder Richard Boadu was named the club's new skipper last week with Ibrahim Danlad, Christopher Nettey and Moise Pouaty as his deputies.

Ganiyu Ismail joined Asante Kotoko in 2018 from Karela United for an undisclosed fee.

His contract with Asante Kotoko was renewed last year until the end of the 2023/24 season.
