English-born of Ghanaian descent Callum Hudson-Odoi is returning to Chelsea after unsuccessful loan spell at the Bundesliga outfit.

German Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen have announced that Hudson-Odoi will return to his parent club at the end of the 2022/23 season's campaign.

The 22-year-old, who was once heavily linked with a move to Bayern Munich and Newcastle United, failed to live up to expectations at Leverkusen during the one-year loan stint.

Hudson-Odoi registered just one goal and one assist in 21 appearances in all competitions for the Bay Arena outfit.

A mix of injuries and poor form means Hudson-Odoi has featured just once in the Bundesliga since February, with that solitary appearance coming in a seven minute cameo against Schalke at the beginning of April.

Kickgh.com understands that Hudson-Odoi is among the list of players to leave Chelsea under the incoming coach Mauricio Pochettino, who takes over from Frank Lampard at the end of this term.

Hudson-Odoi has just one year remaining on his current deal at Stamford Bridge and is expected to leave the club this summer.

He took to his official Instagram to express his gratitude to everyone at Bayer Leverkusen for the year stay.

He was expected to switch his international allegiance from England to Ghana ahead of the 2022 FIFA World Cup after being ignored by English manager Gareth Southgate for the mundial in Qatar.
