New Ghana coach Chris Hughton has opened up his decision to exclude Iddrisu Baba from his maiden squad list for the Black Stars' crucial 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers double-header against Angola this month.

The Black Stars of Ghana are scheduled to face the senior national team of Angola in the qualifiers for the next edition of the Africa Cup of Nations.

The Real Mallorca midfielder had no place in Chris Hughton's 25-man squad for the double-header against Pedro Goncalves' Angolan team.

Asked at his unveiling ceremony on why he omitted Baba Iddrisu, Hughton admitted that it was a tough decision to make because there are soo many players he had to consider.

“With regards to Baba Iddrisu, there are so many players in the squad and you have so many decisions to make, and for Baba Iddrisu, we can speak about probably another five, six or seven players that I had to consider closely before making a decision," the former Brighton boss said.

“So 25 players in the squad will all be my own personal decisions. There can be tight decisions if am looking at the players we have in the squad, he will be a great mix but I can tell you, it was a tough decision but as I said, I can only pick 25 players,” he added.

Baba Iddrisu, who sustained injury before the 2022 FIFA World Cup, has returned from the treatment room since December 2022 and made 19 appearances for Mallorca in the Spanish La Liga this season.

Ghana will host the Palancras Negras on March 23 at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi before they will travel to Luanda for the return leg tie on March 27.
