With the arrival of experienced Dutch shot- stopper Jeroen Zoet, the Ghana-prospect last line of defense is set to be the goalpost custodian of the Cheese Farmers ahead of the new football season
Dutch-born Ghanaian goalkeeper Rome Jayden Owusu-Oduro has been confirmed AZ Alkmaar No.1 for the 2024/25 Dutch Eredivisie contest.
Following the arrival of experienced goalkeeper Jeroen Zoet from Italian side Spezia Calcio this summer, a doubt has been cast over the future of the 20-year-old Ghanaian goaltender, but the man in charge of affair at the AFAS Stadion has addressed the concerns insisting the budding glovesman will be the first choice to man the post for his side next term.
AZ Alkmaar sporting director Max Huiberts has told his club's official website about the Ghana-prospect goalkeeper being the No.1 heading to the next football season; "Jeroen's experience is one of the reasons,” says Director of Football Affairs Max Huiberts about the signing of Zoet, who has played almost four hundred matches in professional football. “Maarten Martens spoke last week about the goalkeeping situation."
"After Maty's departure, Rome-Jayden will get the chance to be the first goalkeeper. We have a lot of confidence in that. It is nice to have Jeroen behind him, a goalkeeper who has already experienced everything in his career. At the age of 33, he is also still in top shape and wants to be of value in the role that was discussed with each other. Jeroen is on the field every day to get better and he is eager to pursue his ambitions. In his role, he will keep the competition sharp and try to make each other stronger."
Given his Ghanaian heritage, Jayden remains eligible to represent Ghana at the international level despite playing for the Netherlands U16 & U20 national youth teams.
