Former Ghana striker Emmanuel Gyasi opened his season's goal-scoring account for Empoli Calcio in their famous away win over AS Roma at the Stadio Olimpico.
AS Roma suffered a painful 2-1 home loss to Empoli in the Serie A match-week fixture on Sunday evening.
Empoli dominated the opening minutes of the game and took advantage of their dominance to open the floodgate on the stroke of halftime through Emmanuel Gyasi.
Colombo flicked on the Giuseppe Pezzella cross from the left and Gyasi dived in with a clumsy, but still effective, tap-in at the back post in the 45th minute of the game.
Empoli doubled their lead at the Stadio Olimpico when Sebastiano Esposito was fouled just inside the penalty area. Colombo, who assied Gyasi for the opened, stepped up to convert the spot-kick by firing into the roof of the net.
A 80th minute header from Eldor Shomurodov wasn't enough to secure AS Roma a point at home as the game ended in a 2-1 win for Empoli Calcio.
Gyasi, who has capped only three times for Ghana, enjoyed the full duration of the game with standout performance which earned him the Man of the Match Award.
