English-born Ghanaian defender Josh Acheampong continues to make waves at Chelsea, with the 19-year-old defender delivering another assured performance in the Blues’ narrow 1-0 victory over Djurgarden in the second leg of their UEFA Europa Conference League semi-final.
The highly-rated youngster, who broke into the first team last season, has seen his confidence grow significantly under new manager Enzo Maresca. Acheampong played a key role in the clean sheet at Stamford Bridge, further enhancing his rising reputation on the European stage.
Speaking after the match, the teenage defender praised Maresca’s influence on his development. “He gives me a lot of confidence, so every time I get on the pitch, I want to repay him and try my best,” Acheampong said.
He also expressed his deep affection for the club, declaring: “I love the club, so as long as I can stay here my whole life, I will do it.”
Acheampong committed his long-term future to Chelsea in December 2024, signing a contract that runs until 2029. He made his professional debut just days before turning 18, featuring in a Premier League win over Tottenham on 2 May 2024.
With his maturity, defensive composure, and loyalty to the club, Acheampong is quickly emerging as one of Chelsea’s brightest young talents.
