Spain forward Nico Williams Jr has expressed his admiration for Ghanaian legend Asamoah Gyan, revealing that he grew up idolizing the former Black Stars captain.

The Athletic Bilbao forward, who has Ghanaian heritage through his father, said that he was inspired by Gyan's goal-scoring exploits as a young boy.

Speaking in an interview with 3 Sports during his visit to Ghana, Williams Jr recalled: "When I was young or little, at six years old, I liked Asamoah Gyan. He is our best striker. He scored a lot of goals. I loved Asamoah Gyan."

Gyan remains Ghana's all-time top scorer with 51 goals in 109 matches and holds the record for the most goals scored by an African player at the World Cup. He retired from football last year at the age of 38.

Williams Jr has already made a name for himself on the international stage, scoring for Spain and winning the Man of the Match award in their recent European Championship victory over England. His younger brother, Inaki Williams, is also a Ghanaian-born striker who has played for the Black Stars.

The future of Williams Jr at Athletic Bilbao remains uncertain, but his performances on the pitch suggest that he is on the path to carving a legendary career in football.
