Ghanaian international defender, Alexander Djiku came off the bench to score but wasn't enough as Fenerbahçe slipped to a 1-3 home loss to Rangers in the first leg of the UEFA Europa League round of 16.

The 30-year-old didn't make Jose Mourinho's starting line up but was subsequently introduced in the game to replace injured Caglar Soyuncu in the 16th minute.

Having gone down first in just six minutes from kickoff courtesy Nigeria's Cyriel Dessers, Alexander Djiku made an instant impact after striking at a close range from a corner kick to level the score twenty-four minutes later.

Czech Republican midfielder Vaclav Cerny scored twice later in both halves to win the game for Rangers who run out with a 1-3 victory in the end.

The Yellow Canaries will now be up for a very difficult task heading into the return encounter as they will have to overturn a two-goal deficit at the Ibrox next week.

Alexander Djiku will hope to stay fully fit in order to make coach Otto Addo's squad for the games against Chad and Madagascar in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
