The defender of Ghanaian root has been released by the German Fourth-Tier side following an uninspiring performances so far this season

German-born Ghanaian centre-back Raphael Osei Akoto has parted ways with German Regionalliga Südwest side FC 08 Homburg, the club have announced.

The 25-year-old former FC Augsburg ll defender, who joined the Waldstadion Homburg outfit during the summer of 2023, has failed to live up to his billings in the lower division contest, hence the decision over the annulment of his terms this winter.

An official confirmation over the release of the Ghanaian stopper read: ''Raphael Akoto and FC 08 Homburg are going their separate ways with immediate effect. The Green-Whites are terminating the contract with the 25-year-old by mutual agreement.''

The statement continued: ''Akoto joined the Homburgers from FC Augsburg II in the summer of 2023. Since then, the defensive player has played a total of 13 competitive games for the Green-Whites.''

''FC 08 Homburg would like to thank Raphael Akoto for his commitment during their time together and wishes him all the best for his sporting and private future!''

Sporting director Dieter Gerstung explained the reason over the decision to go separate ways with the 25-year-old in this ongoing January transfer window via his club's official website: We no longer see a future for Raphael Akoto at FCH, so we have suggested that he look elsewhere. We thank Raphael and wish him all the best for his future.''

Given his Ghanaian heritage, he is still eligible to play for Ghana on the international stage as he's yet to be cap-tied by the Germany national team.
