Ghanaian winger Samuel Adom Antwi opened his goal scoring account for Rivers United in the 2023/24 CAF Confederation Cup group stage against Academica do Lobito.

Nigerian side Rivers United commenced their group stage campaign with an emphatic 3-0 win over Academica do Lobito of Angola at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium.

Adom Antwi opened the floodgate for Rivers United when he brilliantly slotted home a cross from Paul Odeh in the 3rd minute of the game.

Odeh doubled their lead, just two minutes after the break before Shedrack Asiegbu put the game beyond reach for the visitors in the 61st minute.

The former King Faisal attacker was in action with ex-Hearts of Oak star Paul Acquah while Emmanuel Ampiah, formerly of Elmina Sharks, warmed the bench of Rivers United.

Adom Antwi joined Rivers United from relegated Ghana Premier League side King Faisal after the end of the 2022/23 season. He won the best player award of the MTN FA Cup competition.

Rivers United currently sits on top of the Confederation Cup Group C table with three points, albeit on goal difference, ahead of Tunisian side Club Africain, who defeated Ghana’s Dreams FC 2-0 in Tunis on Sunday afternoon.

Dreams FC will host Rivers United of Nigeria at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi next weekend.
