Ghana winger, Frank Acheampong was sent off in Henan FC’s 1:1 draw with Nantong Zhiyun FC in the Chinese Super League on Sunday.
The former Anderlecht star was controversially dismissed two minutes before full-time by referee Gao Peng after the VAR team recommended an 'on-field review' for unintentionally hitting a Nantong player with his right hand as he attempted to wheel off upfront at the left side of the center circle.
The decision looked incredibly harsh on the Red Devils’ 3-goals scorer this season, but, to their credit, Henan dug deep for a hard-fought draw at Rugao Olympic Sports Stadium in the match-day 21 fixture.
Acheampong, 30, has notched three goals and managed two assists in 20 games in the Chinese Super League this season.
Now coach Nam Ki-il will be without the linchpin of his forward line for games against Qingdao Hainiu, Cangzhou Mighty Lions and, most significantly, against Shandong Taishan in the Chinese FA Cup quarter-final clash at the end of a draining month.
