The former Black Stars shot-stopper has completed his switch to the South African Premier League outfit on a free transfer.

Newly promoted South African top-flight league side Durban City FC have announced the signing of Ghanaian goalkeeper Frederick Asare ahead of the 2025–26 season's campaign.

The 26-year-old signed a two-year contract with the Citizens, having passed a mandatory medical examination earlier, making his switch finalised.

The club's official statement reads: “Durban City FC is proud to welcome Ghanaian international goalkeeper Fredrick Asare to the club for the 2025/2026 Betway Premiership Season!. Citizens, let’s welcome Fredrick.”

Asare left Ghanaian side Asante Kotoko following the expiration of his three-year contract with the club after arriving from Accra Lions in 2022 as a free agent.

Asare was handed his first-ever call-up to the senior national team of Ghana last year, but he is yet to make a debut for the Black Stars.

Subsequently, he had been snubbed by the Black Stars technical team following his lack of playing time at the club level.

Asare is expected to live up to expectations in the South African Premier League to reclaim his place in the senior national team of Ghana.
