German-born Ghanaian defender Joshua Quarshie has revealed his primary goal is to help Southampton secure a swift return to the English Premier League following his move from TSG Hoffenheim.

The 20-year-old centre-back has signed a four-year contract with the Saints, bringing both physical presence and composure to the squad.

“I think I’m a very composed player,” Quarshie said when describing his style of play. “I don’t do big things on the ball, but I’m very good at keeping everything simple. I think the main point is my body, my pace, and that’s how I help the team.”

He added: “I think we both have the same goal – to get promoted to the Premier League again – and I’ll try everything I’ve got to help the team with my qualities and to show the fans what kind of player they’ve got.”

Quarshie spent the 2023/24 season on loan at Bundesliga 2 side Greuther Fürth, where he made 20 appearances and impressed with his defensive solidity.

Born in Germany to Ghanaian parents, Quarshie remains eligible to represent the Black Stars at international level.
