The Ghana Football Association has reportedly parted ways with Winfried Schäfer as part of an ongoing restructuring of the Ghana national football team technical setup.

Schäfer was appointed in late 2024 as a technical advisor to support Otto Addo following Ghana’s failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations. However, his departure comes in the wake of Addo’s dismissal, with the FA now undertaking a major overhaul ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The restructuring is expected to continue, with the incoming head coach likely to be granted the freedom to assemble his own technical team.

Several high-profile names have already been linked to the vacant role, including Slaven Bilić, Carlos Queiroz, and Fernando Santos.

The new coach is expected to be appointed soon and will face the challenge of preparing the team within a limited timeframe ahead of the global tournament.

Ghana have been drawn in a tough group at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where they will face Panama national football team, England national football team, and Croatia national football team, with their campaign set to begin on June 17.
