Dutch-born Ghanaian forward Tyrone Owusu continued his impressive scoring form after finding the back of the net for SC Telstar in their thrilling 4-3 defeat to Feyenoord Rotterdam in the Dutch Eredivisie on Saturday.
The attacker produced a moment of quality in the first half, scoring with a powerful effort from outside the penalty area to help Telstar reduce the deficit after Feyenoord had established an early two-goal lead at the BUKO Stadion.
Feyenoord started the contest strongly, taking the lead just a minute into the game through Mali winger Gaoussou Diarra before Spanish forward Nacho doubled their advantage in the 21st minute.
Owusu quickly responded for the hosts, finding space outside the box before unleashing a well-placed strike that beat goalkeeper Tjark Ernst. The goal, assisted by Noach Shenkman, brought Telstar back into the contest.
Feyenoord restored their two-goal cushion in the 32nd minute through Sem Steijn, but Telstar continued to fight and pulled another goal back before halftime through Patrick Brouwer to make it 3-2.
Steijn scored again shortly after the restart from the penalty spot to give Feyenoord a 4-2 advantage, but Telstar refused to surrender.
Shenkman scored in the 69th minute after a pass from Sem Valk to set up a tense finish, although the hosts could not find a late equaliser as Feyenoord held on for victory.
Despite the defeat, Owusu’s performance was another positive highlight in what has been a productive campaign. The forward has now scored three goals in nine Eredivisie appearances this season.
He has also registered one goal in four Dutch Cup outings, taking his overall tally to four goals across all competitions.
