Ghana forward Emmanuel Gyasi struck early for Spezia Calcio as they were defeated 3-2 by Atalanta on Wednesday at the Gewiss Stadium.
Gian Piero Gasperini's side gave their visitors a rough showdown for large periods of the game but the Ghana international who was deployed on the left wing nudged the ball home in the 18th minute to power the Liguria side ahead in the early minutes of the match.
However, Atalanta pulled parity in the 32nd minute through Dutch midfield dazzler Marten De Roon before recess.
Davide Zappacosta and Columbian international Luis Muriel Fruto scored the second and third goal respectively for Atalanta to find themselves in front.
Spezia grew into the game as it went on and got a consolation goal through Moroccan midfielder Mehdi Bourabia in the 64th minute.
Gyasi has bumped-in two goals in 30 outings for Spezia in the Serie A this campaign.
