The 22-year-old defender is set to miss the entire 2023 season in the Swedish top-flight after suffering from a cruciate ligament injury at training session on Tuesday
Ghanaian centre-back Gideon Mensah has been ruled out of Varbergs BoIS FC 2023 Allsvenskan season after picking up a knee injury that will keep him on the sidelines for the entire campaign.
The former Ghana U-20 stopper is now certain to go under the knife as he faces a lengthy spell in the treatment room given the extent of the injury which is believed to be a cruciate ligament.
According to his outfit team doctors Karl Norinder and Anders Ekström, the 22-year-old will stay away from the pitch for a maximum period of 10 to12 months and is expected to return to action in 2024.
''Very sad for Gideon with the injury but he has an extremely strong will and determination which means that he will fight hard to get back. We look forward to a motivated Gideon for the 2024 season!,'' a statement over Mensah's injury by the team medics reads.
Manager Jocke Persson has described the injury setback of his dependable guardsman as ''sickening and boring'' as he is set to miss out on his role in the upcoming season.
'It's sickeningly boring and life as an athlete is not fair but Giddy is strong as a lion and will return again this time. Now we wish him the best rehab and hope he will be close to the group all year as often as possible as he is an important piece with his lovely attitude and hi s big smile,'' Persson added to his side's official website.
He featured in 16 league games for Varbergs BoIS FC in last season's Allsvenskan top-flight campaign.
The former Right to Dream academy product is yet to be capped by Ghana at the men's senior national team, the Black Stars having played for the U-17 and U-20 national youth teams.
