Ghanaian teenager Bobby Amartey has signed his first professional contract with English Premier League side Leicester City.
The 18-year-old, who joined the Foxes at the age of 12, has steadily risen through the ranks to earn this milestone contract.
After an impressive season with the developmental squad, where he captained the U21 team in the Premier League 2, Amartey is now set to join the first team ahead of the upcoming season.
Last season, Amartey made 14 appearances in Premier League 2, in addition to 21 matches with the U18s. His versatility as a defender who can also play in midfield has made him a valuable asset for the club.
Reflecting on his progress, Amartey expressed his satisfaction while acknowledging there’s room for growth. “I feel like the season started off slow, but it picked up quickly, and I’m happy with where I am now. However, I’m not the finished product, so I hope to keep improving. Midfield is a new position for me, but I really enjoy it and look forward to playing there more often,” he shared in an interview earlier this year.
