English League One side Burton Albion have announced the signing of Nick Akoto on a three-year deal from American side South Georgia Tormenta FC.
The 25-year-old defender, who was born in Miami, Florida, has started all 13 USL League One matches this season, operating primarily down the right-hand side as an attacking full-back.
Akoto’s footballing career started out in England, where he was part of the youth set up at AFC Wimbledon before playing non-league football at Maldon & Typtree and Whyteleafe FC.
Tormenta FC signed Akoto permanently in 2023, after impressing in a short loan spell with their second team during the 2022 season.
On signing for the Brewers, Akoto said: “I feel very happy, its an exciting time in my journey and I just can’t wait to get started. For me it was a no brainer to come and I’m just happy that the move was able to happen quickly.”
“It’s a very exciting time to be here. There’s a lot of changes and I’m part of the change so I’m just happy to get started and I can’t wait for everyone to see what we can do.”

Akoto was born to a Ghanaian mother and Ivorian father in the United States.
