Ghanaian forward James Ampofo opened his scoring account for Stromsgodset on Sunday, netting the match-winner in their 2-1 triumph over HamKam in the Norwegian Eliteserien.

The 21-year-old struck in the 83rd minute at the Briskeby Stadion, calmly finishing to secure all three points for the visitors.

HamKam had drawn first blood through Julian Gonstad, but Lars-Christopher Vilsvik pulled Stromsgodset level before Ampofo’s late intervention sealed the comeback.

The goal marked Ampofo’s eighth league appearance since joining Stromsgodset in July. He has now contributed two direct goal involvements, having already registered an assist. The winger signed a three-and-a-half-year contract after impressing at second-tier side Raufoss IL, where he tallied six goals and one assist in just 12 games.

Ampofo first made headlines as part of Ghana’s U20 squad that won the 2021 Africa U20 Cup of Nations in Mauritania, making his debut in the semi-final victory over Cameroon.

His career began at Koforidua Semper Fi before spells in Greece with AO Episkopi Rethymnou and later Norway, where he is now regarded as one of the league’s brightest young prospects.
