FC Winterthur has secured the services of Ghanaian midfielder Emmanuel Essiam on a season-long loan from FC Basel, keeping him at the Swiss club until the summer of 2027.
The 22-year-old, a Ghana U-23 international, brings versatility and dynamism to Winterthur’s central midfield, providing a long-term solution for the Swiss side.
Essiam is no stranger to Swiss football, having moved from the Ghana Premier League to Basel in early 2022. Since then, he has made over 40 appearances across the Swiss Super League, Challenge League, and Swiss Cup, including loan spells at Stade-Lausanne-Ouchy and FC Aarau.
After a period disrupted by injuries, Essiam was loaned to Royal Francs Borains in Belgium’s second division to regain match fitness. Following a club reshuffle, he returned to Basel, where he is contracted until 2028.
Now, the former 2021 U-20 Africa Cup of Nations winner is ready for a fresh chapter at Winterthur, where he is expected to anchor the midfield and provide stability and creativity once fully integrated into the team.
