Ghanaian midfielder Ibrahim Sulemana marked his Serie A debut for Atalanta in their season opener against Lecce on Monday evening.
The Europa League winners started their Serie A campaign in style with a commanding 4-0 victory at Stadio Ettore Giardiniero.
Sulemana, who joined Atalanta during the summer transfer window, made his first appearance for the club by coming off the bench in the 90th minute to replace Mario Pasalic. Despite his brief time on the field, the Black Stars midfielder contributed to Atalanta’s strong finish.
Atalanta's win was secured by braces from Marco Brescianini and Mateo Retegui, giving the visitors a comfortable away win to kick off their Serie A season.
Sulemana, who has been recognized as one of the standout midfielders in Serie A over the past two seasons during his stints with Hellas Verona and Cagliari, will now aim to secure more playing time and a starting position in Gian Piero Gasperini's squad.
The 21-year-old also made his debut for Ghana in June during the World Cup qualifiers against Mali, adding an international dimension to his growing career.
