Genk star Joseph Paintsil has apologized for reacting imprudently after a hard tackle on Olympiacos defender Quini during the club's Europa League qualifiers.
Paintsil's reaction earned him a deserved red card, which cost his team to exit the competition - as they failed to reach the group stage, recording a (1st leg result; 0-1) 1-2 aggregate scoreline.
The Ghanaian international opened the score for KRC Genk from the spotkick in the 30th minute of the match after blasting away an earlier penalty awarded to them.
However, in what appeared to be a split second of lunacy, Paintsil was sent off in the 65th minute of Thursday’s match at Cegeka Arena.
"I want to apologize to my teammates, the fans & everyone for the red card last night. I let you down & I'm truly sorry. There is a lot to learn from this setback, and it is my wish that we use this as motivation for our next match. Together, we can bounce back stronger than ever," he jot down on Twitter.
