The Romanian giants have confirmed interest in reuniting with their former midfielder in this current transfer window, but his demands over his services are too cumbersome for them to deal with over his pursuit
CFR Cluj president Cristi Balaj has said his outfit are keen on signing Ghanaian midfielder Nana Boateng from South Korean side Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors, with the experienced enforcer told ''he has a very high salary'' over his pursuit this January.
The 30-year-old former Manchester City teenager, who linked up with the K League 1 side during the 2023-24 season, could reunite with his former Romanian outfit in this current campaign following his topsy-turvy outings in the Asian country so far this term.
Given his hot chase by the Dr. Constantin Rădulescu Stadium campaigners, the man in charge of affairs at the club has pointed out that the financial demand of the midfield enforcer is indeed miring their pursuit over his signature, but that would not deter them from seeking his reunion in this winter window, telling Gazeta Sporturilor: ''We tried to bring Nana Boateng to the team, but he has a very high salary."
He added: ''The businessmen we spoke to and worked with from other countries, especially those who knew Boateng, told us that we needed a player like Nana Boateng. We used his name a lot. lt's hard to find, but we have hope.''
The Ghanaian-based Right to Dream Academy product has had a rough season with Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors after featuring in only 2 games in the AFC Champions League Two 2024-25 campaign.
Boateng is yet to earn his cap with the Ghana Men's Senior National Team, the Black Stars.
