German-born Ghanaian defender Derrick Arthur Kohn made a stellar debut for Turkish football powerhouse Galatasaray, contributing to their commanding 3-0 victory over Ankaragucu on Sunday.
The 25-year-old left-back, recently acquired on loan from German club Hannover 96, showcased his prowess during the full 90 minutes of the match. Kohn's performance included completing 67% of his passes, winning 5 out of 12 ground duels, and executing 5 recoveries and 6 passes into the final third, despite receiving a yellow card.
Galatasaray seized an early lead with Kerem Demirbay's 13th-minute goal, swiftly followed by Davinson Sanchez doubling the advantage a minute later. Mauro Icardi sealed the victory with a penalty in the 39th minute.
Reflecting on his debut, Kohn expressed his gratitude for the warm reception from the fans and emphasized his enthusiasm for donning the Galatasaray jersey.
"The fans welcomed me very well. The training sessions are happy, there is a very good environment. I am very happy to wear the Galatasaray jersey," he remarked.
Joining Galatasaray on loan last week until the end of the season, with an option for a permanent transfer next summer, Kohn's arrival coincides with Galatasaray's quest to maintain their lead in the Turkish Super Lig. Currently occupying the top spot after 26 matches with 59 points, Galatasaray aims to secure European competition qualification with Kohn's assistance.
