Former Black Stars midfielder Kevin-Prince Boateng has opened up about the long-standing tension with his brother, Jerome Boateng, citing jealousy, contrasting career paths, and personality differences as key factors in their strained relationship.
The former AC Milan and Barcelona star revealed that friction between the siblings began in childhood, when forming a close bond proved difficult due to their opposing personalities and competitive nature.
“We never had a good relationship because we were very opposite, like he was very competitive over me. Then I saw him become a superstar and I always felt that he didn't deserve it,” Kevin-Prince told Andreas Poke.
He reflected on the divergent paths their careers took, with Jerome achieving major honours with Bayern Munich and Germany, including the 2014 FIFA World Cup, while Kevin-Prince experienced a more turbulent journey in professional football.
“Because I was the one taking bad steps, he could follow me and avoid the bad steps so I made the pathway for him, so I felt he didn't deserve it,” he added.
Kevin-Prince admitted that he sought forgiveness for his past jealousy, acknowledging that his attitude may have contributed to the distance between them.
“Anyways I went to ask him for forgiveness as well, that if I was ever jealous or if I didn't want him to deserve it I asked him for forgiveness, but we still don't have a connection.”
Despite the apology, he confirmed that the relationship remains distant, with no meaningful bond restored between the brothers even today.
