Ghana-born Niger international defender Daniel Sosah (26) says he was excited when Niger defeated Ghana, his country of birth.

Niger stunned the Black Stars 2-1 in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier, which was their first-ever away win against Ghana at the Accra Sports Stadium, ending a 16-year unbeaten record.

The Kryvbas Kryvyi Rih forward started his career in Niger where he had his nationality switched. He was born in Ghana to a Beninese father and a Ghanaian mother.

“I was happy when we beat Ghana,” Sosah told Asempa FM.

“Since I started playing for Niger, my dream has always been to play against Ghana.”

Both Ghana and Niger did not qualify, with Angola and Sudan annexing the top two slots to qualify for the continental showpiece slated to come off in Morocco this year.
