Leicester City’s Carabao Cup campaign ended in disappointment after a 3-2 penalty shootout defeat to Huddersfield Town, with Ghana captain Jordan Ayew missing a decisive spot-kick.

The second-round tie at the John Smith’s Stadium finished 2-2 in regulation time, but Ayew’s miss — Leicester’s first in the shootout — proved costly as the Terriers held their nerve to book a place in the next round.

Fresh from a 2-1 win over Sheffield Wednesday in their EFL Championship opener, the Foxes twice let their lead slip during the match. Ayew, known for his composure from the penalty spot, was introduced in the 82nd minute for Patson Daka but had little time to make an impact before the game went to penalties.

In his short cameo, the 32-year-old forward recorded six touches, completed three of four passes, and saw one shot miss the target.

Fellow Ghana international Abdul Fatawu Issahaku was an unused substitute for Leicester on the night.
