The attacker has revealed that many of his advisors including his mother and spiritual father counseled him to join the English Championship side during the summer transfer window

Ghana international forward Joseph Paintsil has confirmed that EFL championship side Southampton FC expressed interest in signing him from KRC Genk, with his decision to stay put at the Belgian elite division side a priority for him this term.

The relegated English top-flight outfit came close to landing the 25-year-old attacking winger during the summer transfer window, but opted to ditch their advances at the 11th hour having followed his conscience.

According to the Black Stars wideman, many of his advisors including his mother and spiritual father were all in support of a move to the Saint Mary's Stadium outfit this summer - with a great career success being predicted at the English lower division side by the spiritual father.

"Many people whose opinions I respect told me that I should leave this summer. Even my mother advised me to opt for a transfer," the Ghanaian hitman  revealed to Het Laatste Nieuws.

"My godfather told me: ‘Southampton is a good club, you will do well there’. But my heart said no," he added

Painstil has so far scored once and provided three assists in 10 games across all competitions for KRC Genk in the ongoing 2023/24 football campaign.

Currently at the international level, he has been capped 9 times by Ghana at the men's senior national team level the Black Stars.
