Following Southampton's 3-0 defeat against Liverpool in the FA Cup fifth round at Anfield, manager Russell Martin emphasized the significance of maintaining fitness for Ghanaian winger Kamaldeen Sulemana to unlock his immense potential.

Martin's comments came after Sulemana missed several goal-scoring opportunities in the first half against Liverpool, prompting reflection on the player's history of injury setbacks, which have hampered his progress since joining from Stade Rennes.

"It’s now about staying fit in order for him to get to the level he is capable of. He is a young guy who is learning all the time and will be an important player for us. I think he is a little frustrated that he has had injuries, then got into a flow and then had to come out with injuries again," Martin stated in an interview with the Daily Echo.

Despite his talent, Sulemana is yet to find the back of the net for Southampton this season, largely due to ongoing injury concerns that also saw him sidelined during the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations tournament with the Ghana national team.
