Leicester City manager Martí Cifuentes has hailed Jordan Ayew’s work rate and mentality, pointing to the Ghanaian forward’s late defensive effort in their season-opening match as the standard for the squad.

Speaking after 'The Foxes' Championship opening fixture against Sheffield Wednesday on Sunday at the King Power Stadium, Cifuentes commended the Ghanaian forward for a crucial defensive play in the dying embers.

“With his experience at his age, he was able to track back in minute 94 and stop a counter, and build a new attacking situation. For me, that’s a summary of the mentality I want from all of us,” the Spaniard stated.

Ayew’s pressing and willingness to contribute in defence and attack were instrumental for Leicester, Cifuentes said, adding that such commitment underpins the disciplined, selfless culture he wants to instil this season.
