Ghana midfielder Majeed Ashimeru is being linked with a move to Belgian side KRC Genk as the winter transfer window draws closer.

Ashimeru appears set to end his five-year stay at Anderlecht after being deemed surplus to requirements in the summer. Although he is widely expected to leave before the start of the season, no deal materialised.

The 28-year-old has since found himself frozen out, featuring only once this season - a brief outing at the weekend for Anderlecht’s U23s in a 2-2 draw with RWDM Brussels. It was his first competitive appearance since 31 May 2025, when he played in Ghana’s 4-0 win over Trinidad and Tobago in the Unity Cup.

According to Belgian outlet SMS News, Genk are monitoring his availability ahead of the January window as they look to strengthen their midfield department.

Ashimeru joined Anderlecht in 2021 and is contracted until 2027. He has made 129 appearances for the club in all competitions, scoring nine goals and providing six assists.
