Norwich City Sporting director Ben Knapper has showered praise on the club's new signing Amankwah Forson after securing him on a long-term contract in the ongoing summer transfer window.
The 21-year-old joined the English Championship on a four-year deal with the club option of an additional year from Austrian Bundesliga giants Red Bull Salzburg for an undisclosed fee.
Amankwah Forson has been with Red Bull Salzburg since 2021, having began his career with former Ghana Premier League campaigners West African Football Academy (WAFA). During his three-year stay in Austria, he was also loaned out to Liefering FC and SC Rheindorf Altach.
“Forson is a talented and very well-rounded player, who will add quality and versatility to our squad,” Ben Knapper told the club's official website.
“He’s progressed through a fantastic player development system, and brings with him experience in both the Champions League, as well as being a senior international with Ghana.
“We feel he is a great fit for us, and I’m sure that we can develop him further and achieve great things together.”
Forson will wear the number 18 shirt at Norwich City and expected to make his debut for the Canaries in their 2024–25 season's opener against Oxford United on Saturday.
Amankwah Forson football career
Born in 2002, the midfielder began his career with the West African Football Academy
He made his senior professional debut in the 2019/20 season of the Ghana Premier League against Karela United.
From there, in February 2021, he joined Austrian Bundesliga side RB Salzburg from West African Football Academy (WAFA) for an undisclosed fee.
Also in February 2021, the Ghanaian was sent out on loan to Liefering in the Austrian Second League.
While on loan, he made a total of 29 apps and scored a six goals with eight assists.
In June 2022, he made his return to the Austrian Bundesliga, before being sent on a season-long loan to Rheindorf Altach.
There, he appeared 16 times, he scored one goal and registered five assists.
Forson returned from his loan and began playing for RB Salzburg, while at the club he scored two goals in two games in the ÖFB Cup.
In the league, he played 23 games where he scored two goals and had two assists.
Overall, he had 35 appearances and scored two goals for the club across all competitions before now making the switch to Norwich City.
