The English lower-tier side have acquired the services of the 21-year-old midfield enforcer of Ghanaian descent in the ongoing winter transfer window

French-born Ghanaian midfielder Pierre-Emmanuel Ekwah Elimby has sealed his move to English Championship side Sunderland AFC until June 30, 2027, the club have announced.

The former Chelsea academy product is joining the Stadium of Light outfit from West Ham United in an undisclosed transfer fee in this January window.

"Sunderland AFC is delighted to announce the signing of Pierre Ekwah. The midfielder has signed a contract at the Stadium of Light until summer 2027 and moves to Wearside from West Ham United for an undisclosed fee," a statement over Ekwah's signing reads.

Right after inking the deal, the midfield enforcer had this to say: "The history and vision of the Club really attracted me and I’m delighted to be here. I see myself as a number eight who can handle the ball well, but I can also do the defensive side of the game. It’s great to see the Club trusting young players and that’s something that really appealed to me – it seems a great environment for me to develop as both a person and a player, and I can’t wait to get started.”

Pierre Ekwah is still eligible to switch allegiance and play for Ghana at the international level despite featuring for the French U-16 & U-20 national youth teams.
