The defender of Ghanaian root has completed his transfer switch to the relegated English top division side from the German elite division outfit ahead of the summer transfer window

Relegated Premier League side Southampton have announced the signing of German-born Ghanaian centre-back Joshua Quarshie on a four-year dealfrom Bundesliga side TSG Hoffenheim.

After spending the second-half of the 2024-25 campaign on loan at 2. Bundesliga side SpVgg Greuther Fürth, the 20-year-old rearguard has parted ways with his current employers on a permanent basis as he is now heading to England to link up with the St. Mary's Stadium outfit.

"Southampton Football Club is delighted to announce that an agreement has been reached to secure the signing of promising young central defender Joshua Quarshie from TSG Hoffenheim'" an official confirmation read.

"A Germany Under-20 international, Quarshie will join the club on a four-year deal from July 1st, becoming Saints’ first signing of the summer and the first addition under new Men’s First Team Manager Will Still"

The Ghana-prospect had this to tell his new employers after inking his deal via the club's official website: " “It makes me feel very happy because Southampton is a very big club with very good history. From the first second, I felt Southampton is the right club."

“English football is a little bit rough and I like this kind of playing style. With my height and my body, I think I’m in the right spot. Since I was a little kid I was dreaming to play in England and now it’s coming to reality, so I’m very excited to play here.”

Sporting director Johannes Spors added: "Joshua is a talented young player with good experience for his age, having played more than 80 senior games already in his career, and has tremendous physical qualities."

“His outstanding athleticism makes him a natural fit for the energetic playing style our new manager hopes to implement. As a club we are committed to improving young players, and Joshua is very determined to develop his game with us."

He made 25 appearances for SpVgg Greuther Fürth across all competitions during his loan spell in the just ended 2024-25 campaign.

Given his Ghanaian root, the 1.96 meter tall central defender still remains eligible to play for Ghana on the international stage despite playing for the Germany U18, U19 and U20 national youth teams
