The 22-year-old defender has completed his transfer move to the German top-flight side from the Swiss elite division outfit on transfer deadline day
Bundesliga club VfL Wolfsburg have announced the signing of Ghanaian centre-back Jonas Adjetey from Swiss Super League side FC Basel on a four-and-a-half-year contract.
The promising rearguard put pen to paper on the long-term deal after passing his mandatory medical examinations earlier today and he is now set to begin life in the German top-flight for the remainder of the current campaign.
A statement confirming the capturing of the Ghanaian youngster by the Volkswagen Arena campaigners reads: ''Further reinforcement for the Wolves' defense : Center-back Jonas Adjetey has made a permanent move from FC Basel to the Green-Whites. The 22-year-old Ghanaian international has signed a contract until June 30, 2030.''
The former Ghana U20 star has told his club's official website: ''It means a lot to me to be in the Bundesliga now and to take this step with VfL Wolfsburg. I’m looking forward to getting started right away and will invest everything every day so that together we can get the results we need.”
Sporting director Pirmin Schwegler added: ''Jonas is a very strong physical player, fast and good in tackles. He brings exactly the qualities we need for our defense. At FC Basel, he proved himself both in the league and internationally over the past three and a half years. We have high hopes for Jonas and are convinced that he will strengthen our team immediately.”
Before sealing his transfer move to his new employers this winter, he figured in 23 games for FC Basel across all competitions in this current 2025-26 football season.
With this marquee move to the Bundesliga and the 2026 World Cup looming, the defender would surely be in contention to make the cut for the June global football event with the Ghana senior men's national team as he currently boasts of 7 caps with the African powerhouse on the international stage.
