The Austrian second-tier side have announced the signing of the ex-Grasshoppers Zurich forward in this ongoing winter transfer window
Ghanaian striker Asumah Abubakar has joined Austrian 2. Liga side SC Austria Lustenau on a short-term deal until the end of the 2025-26 football season.
The 28-year-old former FC Luzern frontman is joining the Planet Pure Stadion outfit on a free transfer after severing ties with Maltese Premier League club Birkirkara FC this January.
A portion of an official confirmation over the signing of the Ghanaian forward reads: ''The ink is dry, SC Austria Lustenau's new attacking player has landed on the Rhine. The Green-Whites have made a move in the transfer market, strengthening their squad with Portuguese striker Asumah Abubakar.''
The ex-Willem ll U19 star has told the club's official website: ''I'm happy to be here now. I've come to strengthen the team and will give everything to achieve our shared goals. I'm looking forward to the team, the club, and especially the fans.''
Sporting director Dieter Alge added: ''We are very pleased to have signed an experienced striker like Abu for our club. He brings not only quality and a goal threat, but also valuable experience that will help our team both on and off the pitch.''
Asumah has a vast experience in the various divisions across Europe having taken in spells with Grasshoppers Zurich, FC Luzern, FC Lugano, Brisbane Roar and SC Kriens so far in his football career.
After playing for the Portugal U19 youth team, the Kumasi-born native still remains fit to play for Ghana senior national team on the international stage.
