Ghanaian teen Bernard Acheampong has joined Allsvenskan side Hammarby IF on a five-year deal from Ghanaian Division Two club Asanska Football Club, the club have confirmed.

The  talented budding star, who turns 18 on December 31, 2024, was believed to have caught the attention of the Swedish elite club during their scouting mission in Ghana in November last year.

An official confirmation over the signing of the teenager on a long-term contract read: ''Ghanaian winger Bernard Acheampong has been training with Hammarby in Marbella this past week, and it is now clear that he will become a permanent Hammarby player. The club and Bernard have agreed a five-year contract.''

''Last week, Bernard Acheampong joined the men's team's training camp in Marbella. The fast and technical winger was invited after being scouted in his home country of Ghana, and now that he has turned 18, Hammarby and Bernard have made a deal and signed a contract. However, Hjelmberg emphasizes that it is a signing made for the future.''

Acheampong had this to tell his new side right after penning his deal, stating on the club's official website: ''I am very happy to have signed for a club like Hammarby. It feels very good and I am looking forward to learning a lot here.''

Sporting director Mikael Hjelmberg added: ''We are very proud and happy that Bernard has chosen to continue his career in Hammarby. We see a lot of potential in him. He has both speed, technique and a finishing ability that we hold in high regard. We will work very hard to ensure that Bernard develops as well as possible in Hammarby.''

He has so far been tipped for greatness by those who have honed his talent as a budding star and would be expected to make the grade in the Swedish top-flight for the 2025-26 season.
