The 21-year-old midfielder has sealed a deal with the Belgian top division campaigners on a permanent basis following his season-long loan spell for the 2024-25 campaign

Ghana international midfielder Lawrence Agyekum has joined Belgian Pro League side Cercle Brugge on a four-year deal from Austrian Bundesliga side RB Salzburg, the club have announced.

After spending the entire season on loan at the Jan Breydel Stadium, the Bruges-based club have now exercised their purchase option of making the loan deal permanent by handing him a contract that would keep him at the club until 2029.

An official statement over the long-term deal read: ''Cercle Brugge has exercised the purchase option in the loan deal of Lawrence Agyekum. The 21-year-old Ghanaian, who is currently on loan from RB Salzburg, will now make a permanent move to Groen-Zwart. He has signed a contract until 2029.''

The former WAFA SC product expressed his happiness to stay with his new employers following his loan spell this term: ''lt’s been a busy season already, but I’m grateful to God for where I am today. I’m happy to stay at Cercle and looking forward to what’s next.''

Sporting director Rembert Vromant added on his club's official website: ''We’re pleased to have activated the option in Lawrence Agyekum’s contract. He’s a versatile midfielder with strong technical skills, and he fits perfectly into our playing style. We believe in his continued development and are looking forward to the coming seasons together.

Agyekum, who was strongly linked with a move to French clubs Strasbourg and FC Nantes ahead of the summer window, has been an outstanding performer for the Green and Black after featuring in 44 games by netting 2 goals and assisting 2 across all competitions in this current 2024-25 campaign.

He currently boasts of one cap with the Ghana Senior Men's National Team, the Black Stars at the international level.
